All around this land, the sound of pools being opened is awakening slumbering mermaids who have spent the winter dreaming of glittering water and shimmery waves. Like me, they long for these warm summer days. Could I too be part mermaid?

The sun was calling today.

To the beach you said.

But it is only May 13.

The lake is freezing. Too frigid to swim.

So you relented.

We filled the little pool instead.

The one the winter wind brought us over the fields.

The water from the hose is awfully cold too,

Because it comes from the same lake you wanted to swim in.

On the rainiest of days, after several days of rain, during an equally damp and rainy spring, the proverbial dam burst and the kids went outside to play. “Mom, we’re not made of sugar, we won’t melt”, they tell me as they head outside, numerous umbrellas in tow. To recreate the umbrella fort of their memories, circa 2014.

Week 17

What adventure did these toes take you on today? An epic battle to save your kingdom from a ferocious two headed dragon. Could you have been scaling a mountain to touch the clouds. Or just maybe, you and a friend, a fellow rescue ranger of course, embarked on a quest to reunite the last two surviving duck billed platypus to their natural habitat so that they can repopulate the world with their majestic offspring.

Pink boots, do you remember that winter? The one that wasn’t? Sometimes the ground was frozen, but most of the time it wasn’t. And you only got to climb the toboggan hill for two days. The snow belt got more than we did, but they always have more fun. Your friends pink skates are sad too. And snowshoes say hi. They missed you this year.

The ground is still frozen. And it is February after all, but the groundhog did say it would be an early spring. The tulips, daffodils and swans seem to think it will be too. You skipping rope too I think. Me, I’m not sure, but as long as the sun is willing to shine and replenish my Lux levels and vitamin D, I will take it.

These days of childhood abandon. The innocence, a moment here, outside of Toys R Us. You can both be children without a care or worry. School isn’t even on the radar today. It’s Sunday. A day to be free and wild. And ride Road Runner backwards.
